Do I need to have a professional guitar before starting?
It is important that you have a guitar that is playable, but it does not have to be a "professional" guitar. Most guitars made these days are pretty good. If you are starting with your uncles old guitar from the attic, it might be a good idea for the local music or guitar shop take a look to see if is playable. They can also put new strings on for you.
